The new 2014 weekend schedule has been released and posted on the website link to the 2014 events page
Our main focus for this year is attracting new trackday riders and offering new riders a clear path from first time rider to becoming a racer. We've introduced a new rider mock race as well as a Sportsman race for intermediate to advanced track day riders on Saturday. This will provide trackday riders an introduction to racing with the guidance of our trackday instructors. Race day for novice and expert racers will be on Sunday. A race announcer will be present on Sunday to call the races. Bruce Attachments:

I like it ...are the thunder races all 10 laps ...a 15 and two tens is a bit much for Bob and me if i'm honest..plus it is boring to watch ..can anyone say "if i only had five more laps I coulda got that guy".. Love the increased practice and enough on Sunday to scrub in a set of tires ..Well done

Just noticed the Thunder laps aren't specified on the schedule but we're moving to 12 lap races for Thunder/600/Open. We shortned up the races for the riders since Sunday is more jam packed and it will provide consistent scheduling.

are you saying all thunder races are 12 laps ...two to many in my opinion ..boring ...if it isn't decided in ten two more will not make any difference ..If part of the object of the new system is to make it more interesting to watch ..then you are not doing it in this case .

Thunder provided some of the most exciting racing we've seen in a while last year and I know some of the top 3 riders would've loved to have an extra lap or two. Our griding procedure will change this year and this will offset the additional laps. I have no doubt Thunder will provide the same excitment as it did last year.

to much excitement might not be good for Bob ... fill us in on the proposed new grid procedure

First, I love the new site! Very well done. And the schedule looks interesting... Any thoughts how the fees will work out for the track day folks? Previously, for 6 and 5 sessions the fees were $100 and $80 respectively with sportsman races costing extra if riders chose to participate. Now, with the track day sessions going to 5 and 3, and races making up the remaining time, how will the fees change?
A couple options... 1) Drop the track day fee a little and still charge extra for the races 2) Keep the same fee and include the races "free" 3) Keep the same track day fee and continue charging for the sportsman races (lol! - not preferred).
Thanks, and again, great job on the site upgrade!! -Norm

We still need to discuss the Sunday fees but as for Saturday the fees will remain the same. The Saturday "mock races" are seen as another session meant to introduce riders to racing. As for Sunday I would imagine we will decide to adjust the trackday fee for the reduced sessions Bruce

Having been at Gimli since the late 90s, I like how the club has adapted to the needs of our organization again. 2-3 years ago we seemed to reach a peak of riders coming out, with our former "races on Sat and Sun" program. With numbers appearing to dwindle somewhat, I think it was a good plan to go back to the former "trackday Sat and race Sunday" setup. What results is a slightly less hectic schedule on the first day, and this ultimately will lead to more trackday riders, more satisfied trackday riders in regards to track time, along with greater setup and practice time for the racers. Time will tell if the numbers in the club increase, but I think it was a good call by the exec.

funny thing that is how they did it in the 70's and 80's ...can't say it had a great affect on attendance but to me it is a much better and safer way to do it ..more in keeping with racing the world over

We opted out of the Novice mock race. Being round 1 with very new riders, safety was a concern and it was replaced with a regular novice session. We'll be making a few tweaks to the schedule but overall things went well.
