Andrew Nickel Memorial Endurance Race – General Rules and Guidelines
Team rider event – Ride your own bike
When: MRA Round 4 - Saturday August 12th
Race length – 1.5 Hours / 90 minuets
Most laps performed win
Race Start Time – 3:30 PM
Endurance Race participant MANDATORY riders meeting will be conducted @ 12:20 PM in the concession area on Saturday.
Cash Prizes and Awards
Thanks to the generosity of Andrews’s wife, Annette, we will be offering cash prizes for ALL competitors that finish on the podium.
Endurance Race Cash Awards:
1st Place Team - $150.00 for each team rider
2nd Place Team - $100.00 for each team rider
3rd Place Team - $75.00 for each team rider
Each rider on the winning team will also receive a personalized winner’s plaque to be presented at the clubs annual general windup meeting and event.
General Event Regulations, Rules and Penalties:
Bike & Team Requirements:
We have amended the rules that would allow riders / teams to race any category of bike and have removed the previous Thunder Bike mandatory requirement.
The MRA Executive has created a handicap scoring system that creates a level field for all race teams and competitor regardless of bike displacement.
Teams that do not enter a Thunder class bike will have laps deducted from their final overall total to compensate.
This means that both two and three rider teams are now open to compete with any class of bike of their choice. Teams that want to race 2 or 3 Thunder Class bikes are welcomed.
Example – A two rider team can compete with two Supersport or two Superbikes, or a mix of both. No Thunder Class bike would be required.
All riders / participants MUST have a transponder mounted on their bikes at all times.
Every rider / bike must be identified by a separate transponder. (Rental units available)
We will NOT be performing a transponder “switch” as previously communicated.
2-rider/bike team
2-Rider Teams - Each rider must log a minimum recorded total combined track time of 30 mins.
3-rider/bike team
3-Rider Teams - Each rider must log a minimum recorded total combined track time of 20 mins.
Tech Inspection -
All Endurance Bikes MUST pass Race Tech Inspection (lock-wired, belly pan, etc.)
Helmets -
All race participants MUST have a Helmet that meets all current CMA minimum standards and certifications (Snell 2010, ECE 22.05, BS 6658, etc.). All Endurance Race participants will require a helmet inspection prior to the start of the race event. Helmets MUST be brought to the Endurance Race Rider Meeting.
Helmets that do NOT meet the CMA regulations will NOT be allowed on the track and may result in rider disqualification.
Endurance Race Team Pit location -
Team riders & bikes will set up their respective pit areas along the Armco in the Pit Lane area located on the South Side of the facility.
Teams will NOT be allowed to pit in the Hot Chute.
Teams must make their own arrangements for the supply of suitable electrical power to facilitate the use of tire warmers.
Only team riders and one mechanic / support individual per participant will be allowed.
No spectators allowed in the pit area!
All team must have a minimum of one fire extinguisher in their immediate pit area.
Endurance Race Start –
All teams will grid on the Main Straight as per a pre-determined / assigned grid position as per normal MRA race start procedure. Grid Positions will be determined by a random draw of all teams entered prior to the start of the Endurance Race.
Team Rider Handoff and changeover -
Riders exiting the track will follow the designated cone course to the Endurance Race pit area as described below.
Upon entering the riders designated team pit area, the rider exiting the track will come to a COMPLETE STOP and tag off on his teammate who will then proceed to enter the Hot Chute via the designated cone course and proceed down the Hot Chute at a speed not to exceed 80 KPH.
The Riders team mate who will be continuing the race should be on his bike, remaining stationary until the rider exiting the tracking has come to a complete stop and has tagged off on his teammate.
There will be a designating Pit Official that will monitor each riders and teams adherence to the rider changeover process.
Failure to comply with the team rider handoff / changeover process as defined above will result in the team being assessed a one (1) lap penalty for each occurrence upon the completion of the event.
Endurance Race Track Entrance –
All riders will enter the track via the Hot Chute as per normal practice and procedure.
There will be a MAXIMUM Hot Chute Speed Limit of 70 Kms per hour.
Rider’s speeds in the Hot Chute will be monitored via radar gun and operator.
Hot Chute Speed Control - Warning Flags
Riders at recorded speed under 70 KPH – No Flag – All good!
Riders at recorded speeds between 70 to 80 KPH – Stationary Flag will be displayed
Riders at recorded speeds in excess of 80 KPH – Waving flag will be displayed – Rider Speed penalty will be assessed.
NO passing in the Hot Chute.
Hot Chute Excessive speed penalty -
Any rider that is shown a waving flag as a result of excess speed in the Hot Chute will be assessed a one (1) lap penalty against his teams overall lap total upon completion of the race.
The excess Hot Chute speed penalty will be assessed at one lap, per team, PER OCCURENCE.
Endurance Race Track Exit –
Hot Chute entrance and track exit will be speed controlled via cone intervention
All riders will exit the track via the designated cone course as per normal practice and procedure.
Riders will follow and REMAIN WITHIN the cone course leading immediately to the pit road and into the endurance race designated pit area.
Hitting a safety cone on track exit or while travelling through and into the pit area will result in a one-lap penalty being assessed to the rider and his team, PER OCCURRENCE.
Mechanical failure during the course of the endurance race -
If a rider experiences / encounters a mechanical failure with his bike during the course of the endurance race, the rider MUST push his bike off the track to a safe area where the bike will not interfere with the normal course of racing activities. The rider must ensure that his bike is pushed out of harm’s way.
Failure to do so will result in the immediate disqualification of the rider and his team.
Only when the rider has safely removed his bike from the immediate track area, will the rider be allowed to go back to the pits and “tag-off” with his teammate to enable his team to continue the race.
Only when the riders returns to his designated pit area can the team resume racing.
The Rider that suffers a mechanical failure will be out of the endurance race / ineligible to continue to participate.
Important Notice – Riders that end up on the outside of the road course without a running bike, can only cross the “Live Track” to the inside at a Corner Worker Station, under a waving yellow flag.
Riders can only cross at corners one, three, five and eight.
*Note - The Crash Cart will NOT be dispatched to retrieve a bike that has experienced a mechanical failure.
Rider Crash during the course of the endurance race – Yellow Flag
If a rider crashes during the course of the endurance race that result in a Yellow Flag incident, and where the rider cannot re-mount or re-enter the race, the rider MUST push his bike off the track to a safe area where the bike will not interfere with the normal course of racing activities. The rider must ensure that his bike is pushed out of harm’s way.
Failure to do so will result in the immediate disqualification of the rider and his team.
Only when the rider has safely removed his bike from the immediate track area, will the rider be allowed to go back to the pits and “tag-off” with his teammate to enable his team to continue the race.
Only when the riders returns to his designated pit area can the team resume racing.
The Rider that was involved in the crash will be out of the endurance race / ineligible to continue to participate.

Rider Crash during the course of the endurance race – Red Flag
If a rider crashes during the course of the endurance race resulting in a Red Flag incident, and where the rider may have suffered injury, and / or is unable to remove his bike from the race surface, the race will be Red Flagged and stopped as per normal MRA race procedure.
The ambulance and Crash Cart Will attend to the incident scene as per current MRA race procedure.
The Rider that was involved in the crash will be out of the endurance race / ineligible to continue to participate.
The rider that is deemed responsible / at fault for causing the incident requiring the race to be stopped will have a five, (5) lap penalty assessed to their respective teams overall standings.
The penalty will be assessed against the teams overall results upon the completion of the endurance race. The Red Flag incident will be reviewed beforehand with input and consultation with corner workers and track officials before the penalty has been levied against the rider and his team.
Summary –
Mechanical failure – Rider cannot continue = Rider is disqualified. Team allowed to continue race.
Yellow Flag - Crash – Off-Track Excursion – If Rider is uninjured and Bike is undamaged:
Rider is permitted to continue once the track is clear – No penalty assessed.
Yellow Flag - Crash – Off-Track Excursion – If Rider is uninjured and Bike damaged:
Rider must push bike to safe location – Return to pits – Rider is disqualified
Team allowed to continue race.
Red Flag - Crash / Major Incident – Rider is disqualified – Team allowed to continue race.
5-lap penalty assessed to team.
Red Flag Procedure –
In the event of a crash resulting in a Red Flag being displayed, all riders must exit the track as per normal MRA race procedure and report back to his teams designated pit area.
Upon receiving the “All-Clear” by the Head Referee, the teams will reenter the track and take their position on the grid for a flagged restart of the endurance race.
Event Registration, Participation and Eligibility -
Only current and previous MRA racers are eligible (excludes Sportsman riders)
All race participants MUST have a 2017’ MRA membership to be eligible.
All race participants MUST have a 2017’ CMA Competition membership & license # to be eligible. (Insurance requirement)
Track day riders that have not previously competed in an MRA Expert or Novice competition event will not be allowed to participate.
Registration Fees -
Entry Fee - $50.00 per rider
MRA Track Improvement Fee applied to all riders that have registered for any race or track-day event for the August Round 4 weekend as per current practice.
Riders choosing to register only for the Saturday Endurance Race will be required to pay the mandatory Track Improvement Fee.
The MRA annual summer BBQ will kick-off Saturday following the completion of the Endurance race.
Free admission to all Trackday riders, Race participants, MRA Staff, family and friends!
