Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and am looking for your knowledge. Is a 1000cc bike to big for a new racer or track day user? I'm not new to riding street but I'm well aware track is very different. Just found some great deals on the liter bike's and am looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance. Josh

As a trackday bike you can use a 1000,although a 600 or smaller will be easier to learn on.As a novice racer you are required to use a 600 or smaller size motorcycle

Ok thanks Jason. The hunt for a 600 begins. I'm sorta partial too the triumph daytona 675 but not sure of the race classes? Want to learn on track days, pass required training in hopes to eventually race. Cheers

Jason has a lot of experience and he's right a 600 is far better to learn on than a 1000, trust me your wallet and body will thank you.
The Triumph is a great bike and is legal for the 600 class. My only issue with the Triumph is parts are expensive and aren't as readily available. Nice thing with having a Japanese bike is parts are a dime a dozen and much easier to fix/maintain but ultimately it all comes down to personal preference.

Been doing lots of reading and everyone seems to agree smaller is better. I think I'm going to find an R6 unless a great deal pops up somewhere. I've owned a gixxer 750 and currently own 2 Harleys. Just looking for a new hobby outside the military. Thanks for all the insight guys!

I would go as far to say at Gimli, most riders will actually be faster on a 600 than they would on a 1000. I started doing track days on my street bike, which was a 1000. After a few track days I was interested in buying a dedicated track bike and test rode what is now my track/race bike, an 07 GSX-R 600. Even being unfamiliar with the bike, I was instantly more comfortable and putting in faster laps. My GSX-R 600 is for sale. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or are interested. mra.boards.net/thread/133/2007-gsxr-track-race-bike
